WHAT IS PREMARITAL COUNSELING?
This is one of the happiest times of your life. How can you make it even better? Most couples would like to obtain a deeper understanding of each other and the dynamics of their relationship before their wedding day. Gaining greater insight into healthier ways to communicate, resolve conflict, and understand your relationship's strengths and growth areas can help forge a more solid union as you move forward on your journey.Â
Prepare/Enrich Dr. Wright is a certified facilitator of the Prepare/Enrich program. For decades, Prepare/Enrich has been one of the most recognized programs for strengthening relationships and assisting couples in preparing for marriage. The methodology has been refined, tested, and validated with millions of couples.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM PREMARITAL COUNSELING?
Session 1:Â
The first session is for Dr. Wright to get to know the two of you as a couple and to gain an understanding of; how your relationship developed, the strengths of the relationship, and your concerns for the future (if any), and the expectations for your marriage. During your initial session, Dr. Wright will gather the necessary from you and submit it to Prepare/Enrich, enabling you to separately complete their online premarital survey.
Prep-work: Online Relationship AssessmentÂ
Shortly after the initial session, couples will receive an emailed invitation from Prepare/Enrich to take their survey. Couples should complete the easy online survey at least 7 days before their second premarital counseling session. The online assessment examines the strengths of your relationship and pinpoints areas for growth. Please do not discuss the survey with each other while taking the online assessment. The survey aims to gain the individual's impartial perspective of the relationship. After both parties have completed the survey, Dr. Wright will contact you to schedule a discussion and discovery appointment.
Session 2:Â
Dr. Wright will review the assessment results. Together you will discuss the overall strength and growth areas of the relationship. Topics such as conflict resolution, partner style and habits, family dynamics, financial management, sexual expectations, mutual and discordant spiritual beliefs, and spousal roles, if any.
Session 3:Â
Communication is key to a solid marriage. During this session, the focus will be on exploring your unique communication styles and patterns. Dr. Wright will introduce a communication style script that she will demonstrate and practice with you, allowing you to incorporate it into your marriage as you move forward.
Session 4:Â
During this concluding session, Dr. Wright will delve deeper into any lingering topics, revisit previously discussed matters, or invite you to raise any additional personal concerns you may have. If your church or clergy requires a certificate of completion, you will receive one shortly after this session.
FEE:Â $200 per session
Premarital counseling can be tailored to suit the unique needs of your relationship. While most couples feel prepared for their future after four sessions, others may choose to extend their counseling sessions to five or six sessions to address specific circumstances or areas of focus. If you both opt to continue with additional sessions, please share your decision with each other, and then contact Dr. Wright to discuss the possibility of scheduling additional counseling sessions.
If you’d like to discuss further, or have some initial questions before proceeding, that’s perfectly fine. Let’s explore together!
